Boet Nyariri – 2nd Generation
Boet was born in 1977 in Mhondoro. He was influenced by Tinashe Makaza another fellow sculptor. He started sculpting in 1997. Boet works mostly with the hard stone Springstone and his art is centred more on Family, Women, Mother and Child relationships. Boet was an Artist in Residence at Chapungu Sculpture Park in Harare from 1997 to 2004. His work has been exhibited and sold in galleries across the world. In February 2010 Boet was awarded with a prestigious award in the Sculpture Category at National Arts Merit Awards (Zimbabwe). When I came across that article I took it upon myself to track down this talented sculptor and commission him to sculpt his interpretation of Heritage; a name I had chosen for my gallery. This was the beginning of an artistic relationship between Boet and Heritage Art Gallery. The result was this stunning piece of a mother carrying twins. The twins have theirs legs crossed and also holding something together showing their bond and sense of sharing. Boet’s goal is to travel abroad and do 1 man exhibition shows of his work.
